Pentagon Helps Collect Evidence of Russia’s War Crimes in Ukraine

The Pentagon reported that it is helping to collect evidence of war crimes committed by Russia on Ukrainebefore possible processes in the future so that the authors render accounts before the justice.

The spokesman for the United States Department of Defense, John Kirby, said that they are contributing “to the investigation process”: However, “whatever comes out of that, it is not a decision that is going to be made by the leadership of the Pentagon”, indicated the spokesman.

Kirby stressed that the United States is seeing “indiscriminate attacks against Ukrainian civilians” by Russia and stressed that “in many cases” they are intentional.

“Clearly, (the Russians) are causing large numbers of civilian casualties,” he said.

Both US President Joe Biden and Secretary of State Antony Blinken have accused Russian forces of committing war crimes in Ukraine.

For now, the State Department has not made a formal declaration against Russia for having committed war crimes, but it has announced that it has opened a “legal” review in this regard.

On Monday, German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock promised that Western countries will hold Russia “accountable” using “all available means and mechanisms.”

“The courts will decide, but for me they are war crimes and crimes against humanity,” Baerbock said in a speech at the European Humanitarian Forum, organized jointly in Brussels by the European Commission and the French presidency of the Council.

During that forum, several foreign ministers of the European Union (EU) spoke about the protection of civilians in war.
