Ukrainian authorities announce a “highly toxic” ammonia leak at a chemical plant in Sumy
The head of the Sumy Regional Military Administration, Dmytro Zhyvytskyi, warned on Monday about a “highly toxic” ammonia leak at a chemical plant after a Russian attack on the city of Sumy, in northeastern Ukraine. Zhyvytskyi has appealed to all residents within a five-kilometre radius of the chemical plant to find basements or ground-floor apartments to avoid coming into contact with the chemical. “The gas, with a strong smell, is lighter than air. It is necessary to leave the infected area perpendicular to the direction of the wind, and if it is not possible to leave the area of infection, try to take refuge in basements, or ground floors”, has explained the head of the Regional Military Administration.
