The Ukrainian authorities have refused to hand over the Army’s weapons and leave the besieged city, as requested by Russia. The Russian Navy has bombed a shopping center in kyiv and the governor of Sumi has denounced an ammonia leak in a chemical plant controlled by Russian troops.
The Government of Ukraine and the local authorities of Mariupol have rejected Russia’s ultimatum on Monday, that is, to hand over the Army’s weapons and leave the besieged city. The ultimatum ends at noon.
The Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine and Minister for the Reintegration of the Temporarily Occupied Territories, Irina Vereshchuk, has shown her rejection of the Russian proposal to hand over the city of Mariupol, after receiving from Russia an eight-page letter where conditions the evacuation of civilians to the Ukrainian Army leaving the cityas explained in an interview with Ukrayinska Pravda.
“There are 8 pages with a return to history and another delirium. They sent the same letter to the UN, the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) and hoped that international organizations would react and start putting pressure on Ukraine. This will not happen, as the ICRC and the UN understand that it is manipulation by Russia and that it is taking people hostage,” Vereshchuk said.
For its part, Ukraine has demanded that the Russian Army “immediately open” a corridor to evacuate civilians and be able to take them to the Zaporizhia region, which is under Ukrainian control, without conditioning it on the delivery of weapons by the troops defending the city. “We cannot talk about the delivery of weapons. We have already informed the Russian side about it,” he detailed.
