UN confirms over 900 civilian casualties in Ukraine war

The Human Rights Office of the UN said today that it has confirmed that 902 civilians, without any participation in the conflict, have died since the beginning of the invasion russian and that 1,459 have been wounded in the attacks.

To these casualties must be added those that have occurred in the Ukrainian troops and among the personnel who assist them.

Of the deaths, 179 have been men, 134 women, in addition to 514 adults whose sex has not been determined.

In addition, 75 children have succumbed in this war, which began on February 24.

According to the General Prosecutor’s Office of Ukraine, the dead children are 115.

Among the injured, a hundred have been minors hit by weapons with a wide-range explosive charge, be it artillery fire, multiple launch rocket systems, missiles or aerial bombardments.

As it has repeated since it began documenting the number of civilian victims of this conflict, the Human Rights Office insisted that the numbers it reports are underestimates, particularly in areas under the control of the Ukrainian government.

The gap between figures that the UN body can independently corroborate and actual casualties on the ground appears to have widened in recent days as information from places that are continually under attack arrives with considerable delay, he explained. .

It was specified that this primarily involves the city of Mariupol and the Kharkiv and Sumy regions, as well as the towns of Volnovakha (Donetsk region), and Sievierodonetsk and Rubizhne (Luhansk region).
