Ukraine admits it has no chance to strengthen Mariupol defense

The Ukrainian authorities admitted this Saturday that they have no chance of reinforcing the defense of the city of Mariupol, heavily attacked by the Russians.

Olexij Arestowytsch, an adviser to President Volodimir Zelensky, said the closest forces are more than 100 kilometers away or already engaged in fighting with the enemy.

“Currently there is no military solution for Mariupol. It’s not just my opinion, it’s also the opinion of the military.” said.

During Saturday there have been new Russian attacks on Mariupol and a major steel mill was almost totally destroyed.

“The elderly and children are dying. The city is destroyed, it is as if it had been erased from the map”, police officer Michaíl Wershnin said in a video message broadcast by the media.

The Government in kyiv announced that ten humanitarian corridors have been opened for the evacuation of the civilian population from the war zones.

One of them goes from Mariupol in the direction of Zaporiya. Another four go from the Luhansk region (east of the country) to Bachmut.

Other routes depart from towns and villages around kyiv.
