the chancellor of VenezuelaFélix Plasencia, informed this Saturday that he held a meeting with the ambassador of China in the Caribbean country, Li Baorong, to review the bilateral agenda with which they “deepen” the strategic alliance.
“In order to review the issues on the bilateral agenda that deepen the strategic alliance between Caracas and Beijing, and share information on the world situation, we received the ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to the National Government, Li Baorong, at the Foreign Ministry,” wrote the Chancellor on his Twitter account.
Plasencia did not detail what were the points of the bilateral agenda that were discussed at the meeting.
He also stated that during the meeting both parties confirmed their rejection of the imposition of “unilateral coercive measures” and the “multilateralist commitment to the defense of international law and the principles of the community of nations.”
On February 25, Plasencia rejected the application of “illicit sanctions and attacks” against Russia, imposed after that country’s invasion of Ukraine.
“We reject the actions of those who seek to weaken Russia with illicit sanctions and attacks,” Plasencia wrote on his Twitter account.
The leaders of the European Union (EU) gave the green light a day earlier to the new sanctions against Russia for the invasion of Ukraine, which affect the financial sector, energy, dual-use goods, transport or visas.
On the same day, the president of the United States, Joe Biden, assured that he had agreed with his allies in the G7, the group of the seven great world powers, to impose sanctions packages that will be “devastating” for Russia.
Plasencia added that, given the worsening of the crisis in Ukraine, Venezuela “reiterates the diplomatic route as the only option for peace, understanding and life.”
