Polisario Front: “Sánchez has used the Saharawi people as currency”

The delegate of the Polisario Front in the Canary Islands, Hamdi Mansour, this Saturday reproached the President of the Government, Pedro Sanchezlet there be used the Saharawi people as “exchange currency” to resume “the damaged political and diplomatic relations” between Spain and Morocco.

In declarations to EFE, the representative of the Polisario Front has affirmed that the fact that Spain has supported the moroccan autonomy plan as the “more realistic” option to resolve the problem of the Sahara, its former colony, highlights “the hypocrisy” of the state government when it speaks of international legality.

“Supporting the Government of Ukraine and condemning Putin’s invasion, while betraying the Saharawi people and supporting the satrap of Morocco, is a double standard that doesn’t make any sense,” criticized Hamdi Mansour.

The statement made public on Friday “greatly contradicts” with Spain’s historical, moral, political and legal responsibility for the Saharawi problem, because it knows “perfectly” that it is a non-decolonized territory and pending a resolution by the United Nations.

Furthermore, Mansour foresees ask for a meeting in the Parliament of the Canary Islands and request the regional government to take a position within the new context created by the central Executive, since the archipelago is one hundred kilometers from the Sahara and must have “an important role” for peace and understanding in the region.
