Former Czech President Vaclav Klaus, in an interview with the Lidove Novyny newspaper, said that he rejects “the cheap Russophobia that exists today, the sweeping denial of Russian culture and the like,” and refused to return the Russian state award presented to him in 2007 – the Pushkin medal. It is reported by TASS.
Klaus also speculated about how the Russian military operation in Ukraine affected the Czech Republic. In his opinion, the republic’s spending on helping refugees will exceed the costs of fighting the coronavirus infection.
The politician also pointed to the facts of Russophobia in the Czech Republic. According to him, after the start of the Russian-Ukrainian conflict, cases of attacks on Russian citizens were recorded on the territory of the republic.
Earlier it became known that about 270 thousand refugees came to the Czech Republic from Ukraine. According to Czech Prime Minister Petr Fiala, the authorities are already running out of resources to easily accept everyone who wants to stay in the country.
On February 24, the Russian Federation launched a special operation to protect the LDNR, which was preceded by the recognition of the independence of the people’s republics by Moscow. President Vladimir Putin said that “circumstances require Russia to act decisively” and that it will not allow Kyiv to acquire nuclear weapons. Following this, Western countries began to impose the most severe anti-Russian sanctions.
