US believes Russia has committed ‘war crimes’ in Ukraine

The US Secretary of State, Antony Blinken, remarked this Thursday that he considers that Russia has committed war crimes during its invasion of Ukraine, started three weeks ago and has already caused more than three million refugees.

“Yesterday, President (Joe) Biden said that war crimes had been committed in Ukraine. Personally, I agree,” Blinken said at a press conference at the State Department.

The head of US diplomacy recalled that “Intentionally targeting civilians is a war crime.”

For this reason, he indicated: “After the destruction we have seen these past few weeks,” it is “hard to conclude that the Russians are doing anything else.”

He also asserted that Washington has information that Russia could be preparing an attack with chemical weapons against Ukraine, for which kyiv would be blamed.

Blinken’s words are added to those also expressed today by President Biden, who raised the tone against his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin, by describing him as a “murderous dictator.”

The United States announced on Wednesday the sending of additional military assistance to Ukraine, such as a hundred armed drones and new anti-aircraft systems, to counter the advances of Russian forces. (I)
