China blames ban on telecommunications operators in the US as abuse of power.

China denounced the abuse of power by the United States, which prohibited two Chinese telecommunications companies from operating in its territory, citing security risks.

The US decision comes amid tensions between Beijing and Washington and technological rivalry.

The United States is “blatantly overstepping the boundaries of the concept of national security and abusing state authority to bring a Chinese company to heel,” said Zhao Lijian, a spokesman for Chinese diplomacy.

“This is a serious violation of international economic and trade rules, undermining the rights and interests of consumers, including US users,” he told a news conference.

The US telecommunications agency (FCC) announced on Wednesday that it had revoked the license of Chinese operator Pacific Networks and its subsidiary ComNet to protect the national network from “security risks”.

These companies will have to dismantle their activities in the United States within 60 days.

The FCC had already indicated in March 2021 that Pacific Networks and ComNet did not meet the required transparency and security requirements.

Following an investigation, the agency concluded that these companies “are U.S. affiliates of a Chinese state-controlled entity, making them subject to exploitation, influence, and control by the Chinese government and forcing them to comply with Chinese government requirements.” ”, posing a risk to the national security of the United States.
