How to help refugees from Ukraine

On February 24, the Russian president, Vladimir Putin, ordered the start of the invasion of Ukraine, which unleashed the armed conflict that, to date, has not been resolved. In consecuense, Millions of Ukrainians and foreigners residing in that country have had to flee the Ukrainian territory.

The latest UN balance records 516 civilians killed and 908 wounded in Ukraine, although the figure could be much higher. For their part, the Ukrainian authorities speak of 12,000 casualties of Russian soldiers since that country’s offensive began.

Several international entities have been collaborating with refugees in the country. However, from more distant countries there is a lack of knowledge of how to contribute with the Ukrainians.

“We need your continued support to provide food to the most vulnerable who live in Ukraine and in neighboring countries, especially those who flee in search of a safe place”, indicates the website of the WFP, World Food Program.

On their website it is possible to make monetary donations that will be used to provide food assistance.

The UNHCR is working to ensure that all people have the right to seek asylum and find a safe haven in another country.

For its part, the UNICEF has a similar initiative, focused on helping children in the war zone. “At UNICEF we are deeply concerned that the escalation of hostilities in Ukraine represents an immediate threat to the lives and well-being of the country’s 7.5 million children,” the entity highlights on the web.

To make a monetary donation, you must go to the UNICEF website. The entity is working with partners to provide vital humanitarian supplies and to reach vulnerable children and families with essential services, including health, education, protection, water and sanitation.

For its part, UN Women is also receiving donations for women in Ukraine.
