Blogger Nika Belotserkovskaya became a defendant in a criminal case on fakes – one of the first in Russia after the adoption of a high-profile law. Prior to this, the punishment for spreading false information about a special operation in Ukraine was only administrative.
According to the press service of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation, the founder of Sobaka.ru “spread deliberately false information about the actions of the Russian army.”
According to the Investigative Committee, in March, Belotserkovskaya posted posts on her Instagram about the Russian military special operation in Ukraine, which contained “false information discrediting the authorities of the Russian Federation and the Russian military.” In particular, the department explains, she wrote that “the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation are destroying cities and the civilian population of Ukraine.”
Belotserkovskaya, who has long lived in Monaco, could face up to 10 years in prison under the new fake law.
She herself commented on the news about the case initiated against her with the words: “I was officially declared a decent person!”
