Russian attacks against kyiv since the invasion of Ukraine began on February 24 have caused losses of billions of dollars, the city’s mayor, Vitaliy Klychko, said on Thursday, according to the local agency Ukrinform.
“We see how destroyed the infrastructure is, we see that the economy is not working, we see how many people have fled their homes and now moved to other regions,” said the mayor of the Ukrainian capital.
He said that although “there is still no concrete data, the damage caused can be estimated at billions of dollars. The normal functioning, the normal life of our people, the normal life of our capital has stopped as such. This is only due to aggression” from those who want to “capture the city,” Klitschko stressed.
The mayor also asked the residents of kyiv not to leave their homes and shelters without urgent need.
The former professional boxer recalled the bombardments by Russian troops in recent days on city districts such as Obolonski, Podilski, Shevchenkivski and Darnytski, where the number of civilian deaths continues to rise.
He also referred to the curfew decreed for the last two days and which, as he stressed, “has been worth it.”
“Currently, there are forces working in the city to locate the groups that carry out sabotage. They can be anywhere. And I call on (all citizens) to stay vigilant, if you have any information or see suspicious people, please contact the police,” he added.
Russian troops have been besieging the city of kyiv for days and have launched several missile attacks against districts of the capital that have caused dozens of victims. (I)
