Russian journalist Marina Ovsiannikova, who made herself known by breaking into a Russian news program to denounce her country’s offensive in Ukraine, rejected French President Emmanuel Macron’s asylum proposal because she “does not want to leave” Russia.
“I don’t want to leave our country. I am a patriot, my son is even more so. In no case do we want to leave, we do not want to go anywhere, ”she declared in an interview with the German magazine Der Spiegel, broadcast this Wednesday night.
The French president had declared himself willing to offer Ovsiannikova “consular protection”, either at the embassy or by granting her asylum.
The 43-year-old woman broke into the broadcast of Russia’s most watched news program on Monday night, that of the Pervy Kanal network, where she works as a producer, with a banner criticizing Russia’s military operation in Ukraine and denounced the “propaganda” of the media controlled by power.
She was arrested, fined and released. However, she could face criminal charges and be sentenced to heavy prison terms, under a recent law that cracks down on any “false information” about the Russian military.

Ovsiannikova considered that her action “was above all a pacifist act: both Russia and the whole world are interested in ending this war as quickly as possible.”
“I also wanted to show that the Russians are also against this war, something that many people in the West don’t understand. Most of the intelligent and educated people here oppose this war,” he stressed.
She said she prepared her protest on her own and did not tell her friends or family about it.
“Most of the people who work for national television understand very well what is happening (…) They are not convinced propagandists,” he said, declaring himself “happy” that several Russian journalists from public channels have resigned in recent days. in protest against restrictions on information.
