About a hundred houses, most of them built of mud bricks, were buried early this Wednesday, although without reports of victims so far, after a succession of 19 earthquakes that occurred in the last hours in the province of Caylloma, in the Arequipa region in southern Peru.
“All the houses, 100% made of adobe and stone, have collapsed, and the houses made of noble material are cracked, some have fallen, including what is the local municipality,” warned the mayor of the district of Maca, Sixto Rojas, to the local media PTRconfirming that the strongest earthquake was 5.5 magnitude on the Richter scale.
According to the mayor, there are about a hundred families affected, but the number of missing or deceased is not quantified at the moment.
“Our Cultural Heritage, which is the church, has also cracked. We are waiting for the help of the Regional Government to move us machinery and tents”, Rojas lamented. (I)
