Sanctions against Russia. Deputy head of the European Commission: Russia’s status as a pariah is deepening
“These sanctions will increase economic pressure on the Kremlin and limit its ability to finance the invasion of Ukraine,” the IAR said in a statement. “Thus, Russia’s status as a pariah in the eyes of the international community is deepening,” added the deputy head of the Commission, Valdis Dombrovskis.
The European Union demands that Russia immediately and unconditionally cease its hostilities and withdraw all military forces and equipment from all Ukrainian territory, and fully respect the territorial integrity, sovereignty and independence of Ukraine within its internationally recognized borders.

Sanctions package against Russia. Who and what do they cover?
The countries of the European community will not be able to import goods from the iron and steel sector from Russia. EU investments in the Russian energy sector will also be banned, although this ban does not apply to transactions related to the transmission of raw materials.
The EU also supported the deprivation of trade privileges in Russia, which opens the way to tariff increases as well as import and export restrictions. The EU has further decided to “prohibit the provision of any credit rating services as well as access to any subscription services related to credit rating activities to any Russian person or entity.”
The sanctions also restrict trade in luxury goods with Russia. The list is classified for the time being, but Beata Płomecka, the Brussels correspondent of the Polish Radio, had previously established unofficially that they include perfumes, cigars, truffles, handbags, furs, coats, shoes and diamonds. The sale of cars such as BMW, Mercedes and Porsche is also to be banned.
The new sanctions also cover “key oligarchs, lobbyists and propagandists pushing the Kremlin’s narrative about the situation in Ukraine and key companies in the aviation, military and dual-use, shipbuilding and machine-building sectors” or “people associated with the Russian defense and industrial base”. The blacklist includes, among others , owner of the London club Chelsea.
