On Thursday, February 24, at 3 a.m. Polish time, Russian troops attacked Ukraine. The soldiers struck both from the ground and from the air. The Ukrainian army is resisting tough, but the situation is changing minute by minute.
Mila Kunis was born on August 14, 1983 in Chernivtsi, Ukraine. Her family left for the USA in 1991 and stayed there for good. The actress emphasized more than once that because she grew up in the States, she feels primarily American, but also proud of her roots.
Why did Mila Kunis tell people she was from Russia?
In a recent interview with Maria Shirver, she mentions that people have often told her that she clearly shows that she comes from Eastern Europe. And she had always insisted that she identified herself as a Los Angeles resident. She explained to the host of the program “Conversations Above the Noise” that for years she had been telling new acquaintances that she was from Russia. Why?
When I came to the US and told people that I was from Ukraine, the first question they asked me was ‘Where is Ukraine?’ So then I had to explain to them where exactly my country is on the map and at one point it got very tiring.
Soon after, the actress realized that people did not ask such questions when the name Russia was used. “Then I also decided that I would just tell them that I was from there.” Of course, that changed after the war broke out. Independent reports her words:
It is difficult for me to explain how I felt when Russia attacked Ukraine. Suddenly, it felt as if someone had ripped off a piece of my heart.
Shortly after the outbreak of the war, the actress and her husband Ashton Kutcher set up a fundraiser to donate to organizations that provide humanitarian aid to the victims of the war in Ukraine. They want to raise $ 30 million, and for a good start they donated $ 3 million themselves. In less than a day, they managed to collect another dozen or so million, thanks to which they already had half of their goal. On March 15, the fundraiser shows that the account is already $ 21,582,400.
On March 12, the couple announced that the founder and president of Oracle had committed to donate another $ 5 million, which means that only 3.8 million are still needed to achieve the full goal.
The money will go to Flexport.org and Airbnb.org, among others. The first of these companies organizes deliveries with supplies to Poland, Romania, Hungary, Slovakia and Moldova. Airbnb, in turn, provides free access to apartments and houses for short rentals.
The Russian war against Ukraine continues. From the first hours of the attack, defenseless civilians are dying, and the Russians systematically attack towns and villages. The damage is huge. Millions of refugees are trying to get out of a war-torn country. Needs are increasing hour by hour. That is why Gazeta.pl joins forces with the Polish Center for International Aid (PCPM) Foundation to support humanitarian aid for Ukrainians and Ukrainians. Anyone can join the fundraiser by making a deposit via Facebook or the website. More information in the article.
