Mikel Mancisidor: “Putin cannot retire, because his pride and survival are at stake”

The member of the UN Committee on Economic and Social Rights considers that the Russian president is only going to sit down to negotiate when he sees possibilities, “if not, he will continue with the vassalage.”

Mikel Mancisidora member of the UN Committee on Economic and Social Rights, has pointed out on Radio Euskadi’s “Boulevard” program that a conflict is currently being fought with a world power that has already threatened nuclear weapons, and is threatening freedoms from all over the continent and only understands a speech, that of force“.

In this sense, Mancisidor believes that Putin will only sit down to negotiate when he sees possibilities, “if not, it will continue with vassalage“. The expert considers that the Kremlin is trained with techniques “different from ours” to negotiate and that Putin will continue in this negotiating logic with cruelty: “it cannot be withdrawn, because your pride is at stake and their survival,” he said.

For the expert, the only way out, “the least bad” is that of “an internal movement that makes the Army or the Russian oligarchs think”. Thus, and after making special mention of the action carried out by an anti-war activist who interrupted a news program on Russian television with a banner, he pointed out that “it is one of the the great heroines of our time”.

On the role of China in this whole matter, the expert believes that Russia can only sustain this with the support of China: “A month ago Russia and China signed an agreement, therefore, it is a recognized fact”, he indicated. However, as the scenario now stands, “we want to believe that China is not interested in getting into this,” she added.
