Boric supports Ecuador’s entry into the Pacific Alliance, according to the Ecuadorian Government

The new president of Chile, Gabriel Boric, supports Ecuador’s intention to join the Pacific Alliance, assured the Ecuadorian Government Minister, Carlos Jijón.

Jijón also described as “successful” the visit of the president of Ecuador, Guillermo Lasso, to Chile to participate in the investiture of Boric, last week.

The presidential adviser asserted that the meeting between Lasso and Boric was “cordial” and in it the new Chilean ruler ratified “his enthusiasm for supporting Ecuador’s entry into the Pacific Alliance, which is one of the main objectives of this Government (of Lasso)”.

The Pacific Alliance is a regional integration mechanism created in 2011 by Chile, Colombia, Mexico and Peru, and of which Ecuador, which has observer status, aspires to become the fifth full member.

To achieve this status, the applicant country must have trade agreements with each of the full partners, so Ecuador, which already has them with Chile, Peru and Colombia, needs to close the negotiation with Mexico, which began last August.

Specifying Ecuador’s entry into the Pacific Alliance is one of the great objectives of Lasso, who assumed the Presidency last May.

On the other hand, Jijón added that during his visit, Lasso met with representatives of the four most important business groups in Chile to present them with an investment portfolio.

He has explained to them the intentions of expanding investments in such a way as to reach US$ 35,000 million of investments in the next four years, in a policy that generates two million jobs for Ecuadorians.”, he commented when pointing to Chile as “an important ally” to promote projects.
