Brave Soldier Zac West: The Story of the British Veteran Who Created a Militia Out of Love for His Ukrainian Wife and the Country That Adopted Him

In the midst of the armed war that took place between Russia-Ukraine Since last February, dozens of stories of pain, fear and despair have emerged, as well as some of hope, faith and heroism.

The latter is the case of Zack Westa veteran of the British army who armed himself with artillery and courage to defend Ukraine, the country that is being attacked by Russia and that is also the nation of his wife and mother of his only son.

Now, Zac is considered a hero, because as reported by Noticias Del Mundo, he destroyed a Russian army tank convoy that was trying to cause more damage to the neighboring nation during a night ambush.

Zac West and his tactical experience

For 26 years, Zac West was part of the English Royal Artillery, even serving in Iraq.

The 50-year-old man, originally from Worcester, is the creator of a militia of around 100 people who are defending, with everything they have at hand, the Zaporizhzhya region, where they have lived for 10 years, when he left his native country .

This region is also an important target in the midst of the conflict, as it is the cradle of one of the largest nuclear plants in Europe.

The attacks in the areas surrounding the plant generated fear in the European community, fearing that a nuclear disaster similar to or worse than that which occurred with Chernobyl in 1986 could be repeated.

That is why Zac, out of love for the homeland of his wife and 6-year-old son Adam, took action to stop the Russian invasion of Ukraine. In the words of the former gunner about the events that took place last Friday night:

The main Russian assault force in the city is defeated. They are down to 20% of their battle strength. We have had some success.

The former English militant explains that, since the invasion began, they enlisted their friends and neighbors to organize patrols and strategies to help defend the country, which they refused to leave at its worst. Instead, two weeks before the invasion began, he taught a course in battlefield first aid, the Daily Mail reported.

“There was no way I was going to abandon them. This is my home and I will protect it like any other man here,” he said, explaining that they go out every night in sections of 8 and 10 men, and being the oldest and most experienced in war, he organizes ambushes and patrols. (I)
