Russia would have asked China for military and economic support, according to US media

Beijing has denied the information: “It is completely false, it is pure misinformation. China has stated its position on the crisis in Ukraine clearly and consistently.”

Russia would have asked China for military support and economic assistance, including drones, for the invasion of Ukraine, according to US officials quoted by media such as CNN or New York Times. Beijing has rushed to deny such information.

According to these officials, China may have already provided a response and they stated that if given such assistance, it could change the “situation of forces” on the ground and be a counterweight to the harsh sanctions imposed on the Russian economy by the West.

it’s completely falseIt is pure misinformation. China has made its position on the crisis in Ukraine clear and consistent. We play a constructive role and assess the situation impartially and independently. Denigrating China’s position is not acceptable,” Foreign Ministry spokesman Zhao Lijian told a news conference.

New York Times indicates that Moscow has also asked China economical support to help counteract the blow to the Russian economy from harsh sanctions imposed by the United States and European and Asian countries.

According to CNN, US officials, including White House press secretary Jen Psaki, have increasingly criticized Beijing’s response to Russia’s invasion with a neutral tone but with coverage by the Chinese media. promoting Russian disinformation campaigns and calling the invasion a “special military operation”.

China opposes unilateral sanctions because “they do not bring peace and security” but “serious economic difficulties” to “the inhabitants of the affected countries”. “They intensify the confrontation and lead to a win-win scenario,” spokesman Zhao said last week, referring to the US embargo of Russian oil and gas in retaliation for Russia’s offensive in Ukraine.

Representatives of Security and Foreign Affairs of the Governments of The United States and China will meet this Monday in Rome to analyze the impact of the Russian invasion of Ukraine on security in Europe and around the world, the White House reported on Sunday.

The US delegation will be led by White House national security adviser Jake Sullivan, and the Chinese by the director of the Office of the Foreign Affairs Committee, Yang Jiechi.
