French Prime Minister Jean Castex has acknowledged that the figure of 100,000 arrivals “is possible.” “You have to prepare to be able to welcome them. The principle is solidarity with the Ukrainian people. We have already identified 30,000 requests for shelter, more than half of which come from individuals. And it will increase,” he explained.

Spain does not know how many refugees have arrived since the war broke out.

The exodus of Ukrainian refugees is the largest in Europe since the Second World War, even surpassing those caused by all the wars in the former Yugoslavia during the 1990s (2.4 million according to calculations by organizations humanitarian).

UNHCR calculated in the first days of the war that it could cause up to four million refugees, although given the speed at which the figures are increasing, its officials acknowledged that it is possible that the flow of people fleeing the country is even greater.
