Two workers were stabbed this Saturday at the prestigious Museum of Modern Art in New York (MoMA), in an incident that caused the evacuation of the premises, police reported.
The women were injured “in the back, in the collarbone, in the neck,” but both “will be fine,” confirmed John Miller, deputy commissioner of intelligence and counterterrorism of the New York Police Department (NYPD).
The suspect, who had not yet been arrested as of Saturday afternoon, was known to police as a regular visitor to MoMA, and whose membership card had been suspended after “two incidents involving disorderly conduct” in the last few weeks. days, Miller said.
On Saturday, when the man was denied entry, “he became upset … then jumped on the reception desk and proceeded to attack and stab two museum employees multiple times,” Miller added.
Officers set up a police cordon and the museum remained closed through Saturday.
Multiple media and social media posts have shown images of recently evacuated people outside the museum, a popular tourist destination in the city.
MoMA includes works of art by artists such as Vincent Van Gogh, Pablo Picasso, Andy Warhol, and Frida Kahlo, to name a few. (I)
