The Russian invasion of Ukraine It has further complicated the already difficult life of Kostya and his family. East little boy with cancer has to go down daily with his whole family to a bunker located in the basement of your building to get to safety.
“For a long time we have slept dressed to save time and get into the bunker,” explains Kostya’s father Anhon Oharkov. In this shelter that you can see in the top video of the news, Kostya sleeps on a pile of blankets that his mother has prepared for him.
A terrible situation, but after overcoming cancer this is a piece of cake says his father: “With the terrible things he endured last year, the current situation is affecting him slightly”.
Last year he underwent surgery at the University Clinic in Navarre for a 16-centimeter osteosarcoma in his thigh. A disease that he is still under observation.
“The cancer is in remission and we are monitoring this cancer because things can get complicated“, explains José Lamo de Espinosa, a specialist in orthopedic surgery at the University of Navarra Clinic.
For this reason, they want to leave as soon as possible and cross the border by car, because Kostya cannot stand for long. His idea is to come to Spain, but for now they will stay in Poland. “Because it’s 2,500 km to Pamplona and it would be very hard for him to cover this distance,” explains his father.
Today was the first night without sirens since the war began, tomorrow they hope to be able to cross the border so that Kostya can be safe and recover away from the war.
