Since the beginning of the invasion of Ukraine and the ensuing war in the country, propaganda has operated relentlessly to spread fake news and hoaxes with the aim of misinforming or lying about what is happening on the ground. The latest has spread like wildfire, following the bombing of a maternity hospital in the city of Mariupol. About this place, Russia denied that it was a maternity center because, according to what they say, it was full of Ukrainian soldiers.
It is not the only lie that they try to defend on this issue: from Russia they have accused several women who were injured from that hospital of being actresses. In fact, in some of the images taken this Wednesday both inside and outside the hospital appears a pregnant woman who is injured and leaves the maternity center wrapped in blankets to be attended by medical services. What has been said from Russian accounts is that this woman is a Ukrainian model who is not pregnant.
From the Russian Embassy in London they have assured that the maternity hospital had not been operational for a long time and that it was being “used by the armed forces and radicals of Ukraine“. About the girl, they have come to affirm that “she played the role of pregnant women in the photos” and that said photographs were taken “by a famous propagandist photographer instead of rescuers and witnesses, as might be expected”.
It is not the only social media account linked to the Kremlin that is committed to these disinformation methods, as others have relied on this young woman’s own Instagram profile to highlight that there is no photo in which she appears pregnant. The truth is that this is also a lie. In her own account, in the tagged photos, photos of the girl showing her pregnancy do appear. In addition, images of her pregnancy are also seen in the profile of her partner.
