On his way to the city, the Russian army is attacking the nearby port Mykolaiv. Their mayor accuses them of attacking civilian areas with cluster bombs: “Almost all the bombs have fallen on civilian buildings in the city. They have used cluster bombs,” he denounced.
Some analysts point to various miscalculations on the part of the Russians, such as the unexpected resistance, especially in Russian-speaking areas like Kharkivor that of President Zelensky himself, who still does not want to give up.
“They have encountered unexpected resistance. There are still very few cities that have fallen to Russia. The ‘Wall Street Journal’ points out that Russia would be trying to recruit Syrian mercenaries to gain control of the cities. According to unidentified US sources quoted by that newspaper, Moscow would have noticed them because of their combat experience in urban environments.
