The Russian authorities have increased security in Moscow to try to stop the wave of protests against Vladimir Putin that are taking place due to the invasion of Ukraine. In the last few hours, there have been at least 1,000 arrestswhich are added to the more than 7,500 that have occurred since the beginning of the invasion. The cries of the ‘Not to the war‘ have continued to be heard despite warnings from the authorities.

In cities like Yekaterinburg, the security forces have been used harshly to try to dissolve concentrations and chase down protesters through the streets of Omsk. Thousands of people have gathered peacefully singing a famous children’s song, practically considered a hymn from the Soviet era, in favor of peace.

Faced with these pacifist messages, ultra groups respond by supporting the Russian Army and Putin to fight, they say, against “Nazism” in Ukraine, reflecting the division within Russian society.

The Russians who oppose the invasion

In the video we learn the story of Yelena Osipova, 77, who embodies the peaceful resistance against Putin. Survivor of the siege Leningrad during World War II, he went out into the streets to refute with words the echo of the bombs that destroyed Ukraine.

A section of the Russian people who reject their country’s invasion of Ukraine, with arrests extending to more than 120 cities in the country. The Duma, the Russian parliament, has approved sentences of up to 15 years in prison for publishing information considered false, five years for discrediting the army and three for promoting foreign sanctions.

Putin works hard to contain any attempt at protest and threatens to send to the front precisely those who take to the streets to ask for peace.
