Thousands of civilians are trapped in southeastern Ukraine due to the failure of the ceasefire

The streets of Mariupol are devastated after several days of Russian offensive. Neighbors crowd at the doors of supermarkets, which no longer have stock. Many take what they can to the shelters where their families await. There they have no water, no electricity, and they need medicine. “We have no food supplies, the stores are empty,” laments one woman.

On the tenth day of the invasion, the humanitarian emergency in the cities of the southeast in the face of incessant bombardment and the Russian siege intensifies. In addition, in the coming days, temperatures will drop to 12 degrees below zero. Their chaotic situation will have to continue, as the evacuations announced this Saturday have been suspendedendangering hundreds of thousands of civilians.

Russia had given just five hours to open humanitarian corridors, evacuate 215,000 people and allow food and medicine to enter. However, as Ukraine has denounced, Russia has breached the ceasefire From the first moment.

“The humanitarian corridors and the ceasefire do not exist because Russian forces have violated agreements“, declared the Ukrainian Foreign Minister, Dmytro Kuleba, thus responding to the words of Sergei Lavrov, head of Russian diplomacy, who assures that “the powers of Mariupol refuse to allow civilians to leave through the Russian humanitarian corridors”.

Moscow thus accuses Ukraine of having prevented the evacuations and now announces the resumption of the offensive in that area. Russia is besieging Mariupol, a city with which, if taken, they would take control of the Azov Sea coast, and together with Volnovakha they would unite the south with the Donbas region, which they already control.

While, in Irpin, very close to Kiev, they continue to flee from Russian bombs. Entire families, loaded with suitcases, have crossed a collapsed bridge helped by the Ukrainian forces.
