The Russian Ministry of Defense has announced the restart of the offensive against the cities of Mariupol and Volnovakha, where an effort to evacuate the more than 400,000 civilians living in both towns in the south of the country has failed in recent hours.
The Kremlin has announced the resumption of offensive operations “due to the lack of will on the Ukrainian side to influence the nationalists” who are defending these cities from Russian attack.
“Not a single civilian has been able to leave Mariípol and Volnovakha through the announced security corridors,” the Defense Ministry denounced in a statement collected by TASS.
The Ministry has accused Ukrainian far-right battalions of using the population of both cities as “human shields” and of taking advantage of the preparations for the failed evacuation “to regroup and strengthen their positions.”

Likewise, the Russian Foreign Ministry has urged the authorities of the Baltic countries to take all necessary measures to protect Russian diplomatic missions.
“We demand that the competent authorities of these countries take immediate measures to protect Russian diplomatic and consular missions and their employees within the framework of strict compliance with the Vienna Conventions on Diplomatic Relations of 1961 and on Consular Relations of 1963.”
Previously, the spokeswoman for the Ministry, Maria Zajarova, has warned these three countries that the suspension was considered “a hostile action that contradicts the spirit of Baltic cooperation and the legal foundations of the Council.”
Ukraine kills one of its negotiators
The Ukrainian secret service (SBU) has killed one of the members of the Ukrainian negotiating delegation who recently met with a Russian delegation to try to reach an agreement and who has been identified as Denis Kireev, accused of treason.
Kireev would have been shot while in custody, as reported by the Ukrainian newspaper Pravda in its digital edition citing high-level political sources in information that has not been confirmed by the authorities.
