The attacks have not been officially attributed to a specific country, but France lists hackers linked to Russia as the main suspects.
The French Army announced this Thursday that it had become aware of a cyberattack on a network of satellites serving Europe and that have affected “tens of thousands of terminals for civil use”.
France has not officially attributed the attacks to a specific country, but places hackers linked to Russia Like the main suspects of the same.
“We confirm that a network of satellites serving Europe and Ukraine have been victims of a cyberattack,” Michel Friedling, General of the Air Division and head of space command, said at a press conference.
The high command has clarified that the damage from these attacks is “irreparable” and has not specified the number of affected connections, clarifying that these data must be provided by the companies affected by the fall of the terminals.
Friedling has recognized that the current war in Ukraine further reveals “the problem of access to space and its sovereignty” and has advocated that France’s partners and allies be on guard “about what can happen in space, which is still a gray area.”
