874,000 people have fled the war in Ukraine, according to UNHCR

Another 96,000 people have crossed from the eastern regions of Luhansk and Donetsk into Russia. More than half of the refugees have gone to Poland and a few thousand have already reached third countries, such as the Czech Republic.

The United Nations Refugee Agency (UNHCR) has raised 874,000 the number of Ukrainians who have fled the war which began a week ago, after the invasion and attacks launched by Russia from various fronts.

This update corresponds to data collected until Tuesday in the neighboring countries of Ukraine, the entity has specified.

Another 96,000 people have crossed from the eastern regions of Luhansk and Donetsk into Russia.

More than half of the refugees have gone to Poland and some thousands have already reached third countries, such as the Czech Republic, where there is a significant Ukrainian community, according to the UNHCR chief, Philippo Grandi.

Before the outbreak of this international conflict, the UNHCR had registered 53,500 refugees and asylum seekers of Ukrainian nationality, of whom 36,500 were in Europe.
