The UEFA Foundation donates one million euros to help Ukrainian children

The UEFA Children’s Foundation will deliver an emergency fund of one million euros to help children in Ukraine and to refugees in neighboring countries such as Moldova, more than an immediate aid of 100,000 euros for the first and Ukrainian refugees.

The organization indicated that this fund will finance initiatives of its member federations and charitable organizations that focus on children’s rights and well-being and that exact needs are now being assessed.

The fund will be given to the Moldovan Football Association, which already works with local humanitarian organisations, and part of it will be used to provide medicine and supplies to children’s hospitals in Ukraine.

“Children are very vulnerable during conflict and it is our duty to help defend their fundamental rights and their health.. Thanks to the solidarity of European football and the support of our partners, we will be able to provide some of the urgently needed assistance to children in Ukraine and in neighboring countries,” said UEFA President Aleksander Ceferin.

On behalf of the Moldovan Football Association, its president, Leonid Oleiniceco, noted that this concrete support from European football and the UEFA Children’s Foundation “will help quickly meet the basic needs of families and their children through local humanitarian organizations.

The Children’s Foundation UEFA aims to help children and defend their rights through sport and footballand provide support in the areas of health, education, access to sports, personal development, integration of minorities and employability.

A public utility body under Swiss law, the Foundation began its activities on April 24, 2015 and currently develops 180 projects. So far it has funded more than 400 initiatives in 130 countries and more than 1.8 million children have benefited from its work. (I)
