President Zelensky makes a dramatic call to the European Union to show that “they are with the Ukrainian people”

The President of Ukraine, Volodimir Zelenski, said Tuesday before the plenary session of the European Parliament that the Ukrainians “have shown that they are equal to the Europeans” and asked the community institutions to show that “they are with the Ukrainian people”, which is ” giving his life for some values”.

“Without you, Ukraine will be alone. We have shown our strength, we have shown that we are equal to you. Show that you are with us, that you will not leave us aside”Zelenski said by videoconference before the plenary session of the European Parliament.

The Hemicycle, which received Zelensky with a long standing ovation, was full of symbols with the colors of the flag of his country, yellow and blue and welcomed in person the Ukrainian ambassador to the European Union and a group of Ukrainian citizens.

“Ukraine’s European option is our option, it is where we are heading. I want to hear from you towards Ukraine, towards the Ukrainian citizens, that option of Ukraine for and towards Europe”, said Zelensky, who recalled that this country is “fighting for the freedom that Europeans have”.

The president noted his joy at seeing “all the EU countries united” in the face of Ukraine’s European perspective in the future, although he lamented that the price to pay for this consensus has been “thousands of dead people, two revolutions, a war and five days of full-scale invasion of Russia.”

“We are giving our lives for some values, the freedom that you have. We are putting our best citizens, the strongest, the most valuable, at the crossroads. Ukrainians have to feel proud. Today, not only have you talked about that pride, but you have seen it”, Zelensky said.

The Ukrainian president also charged against the Russian president, Vladimir Putin, for continuing to talk about a military operation against military infrastructure “when children are dying”, while lamenting the death of 16 minors yesterday and dozens of people in the attacks with cruise missiles this morning in the city of Kharkov, in the east of the country.

“It is the city with the most universities in our country, the youth there is brilliant, intelligent. This morning, two missiles have hit its Freedom Square. Dozens of people have died. This is the price to pay for freedom, for our land,” Zelensky said.

The President of Ukraine stated that right now its citizens are moved by “the fight for survival”, but also the fight “to be full members of Europe”and was convinced that they are “showing the world exactly what the Ukrainians are, what Ukraine is.”

“Show, in essence, that you are European and that life will win over death and light over darkness,” Zelensky asked the European Union. (I)
