Russian President Vladimir Putin said on Sunday that he was putting the Russian army’s “deterrent forces” on alert, on the fourth day of Moscow’s invasion of Ukraine.
“I order the Defense Minister and the Chief of the General Staff to put the Russian Army’s deterrent forces on special combat alert,” Putin said in a televised meeting with his military chiefs.
Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu responded: “Affirmative”.
International tensions have already spiked over Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and Putin’s order could cause even more alarm.
