Michael Estrada debuts with a brace at DC United, on the opening day of the MLS

Ecuadorian Michael Estrada, DC United forward, made his MLS debut on Saturday with a brace in his team’s 3-0 win at home against Charlotte led by Spanish coach Miguel Ángel Ramírez, who played the first game in their history in this championship.

Estrada, signed this year by DC United on loan from Toluca, with a permanent purchase option, started and sealed his double before the break. He beat his compatriots from Charlotte Alan Franco (90 minutes on the court) and Jordy Alcívar (from the 79th minute).

The scorer showed personality by taking charge in the 37th minute of converting the 1-0 penalty, marked with an accurate cross shot that deceived the rival goaland widened the gap a few seconds before the break with a shot from outside the area after a decisive touch from a defender.

An Ecuadorian international since 2017, Estrada came to MLS after playing the last few seasons at Toluca, a club with which he scored 17 goals and six assists in 66 games.

DC United, which last year fell just one point short of accessing the playoffscompleted his win after the restart thanks to Norwegian expert Ola Kamara.
