The second measure, with the ban on the broadcasts of Russia Today and Sputnik in the European Union, is aimed at curbing “the Kremlin’s media machinery” and will allow, Von der Leyen said, that state media and their subsidiaries cannot ” spread their lies to justify Putin’s war and to sow division in our Union”.

The European Union will also sanction Belarus for collaborating with Russia in its invasion of Ukraine by restricting exports of its mineral fuels to tobacco, wood, cement, iron and steel, as well as dual-use goods that can be used for military purposes.
