Ecuadorians support each other and share routes that are somewhat cleared of military to flee from Ukraine

A little more than six hours of travel take five Ecuadorians, who departed from Kiev, the capital of Ukraine.

In that group is the young woman from Ambateña, Katty Solís, 19 years old. She came to Ukraine five months ago to study Psychology.

Your goal is to reach Chernovtsya city near the border with Moldova. They all go in a vehicle hoping to escape “from that nightmare.”

Three Quito and two Ambateños travel in the group. They first made a stop in Rivne to analyze the situation. And then they decided to continue south.

The possibility of going to the border with Poland, passing Lviv, was ruled out because it is already “collapsed”, he says.

Ecuadorians leave Ukraine and look for flights to return to the country

“When we were in Rivne our plan was to go to Lviv and cross into Poland, but there are really many people, to the point that it is collapsing today (Saturday) and we better decide to go through other borders that are not as crowded as Romania and Moldova“he adds.

Katty contacted Jhoao Estrella, a compatriot who managed to cross the borders of Moldova and Romania. He has already bought a plane ticket to Ecuador.

“I contacted someone who has already crossed into Moldova and now I know that he is in Romania waiting for a plane. So we decided that it is the best route to be able to get out, ”she says.

Katty feels hopeful for the help of Jhoao, who told her that this road was a little clear of the military. He says that the brotherhood of Ecuadorians will always be present.

“Now we are literally alone and we have to help each other as Ecuadorians, including other people of other nationalities if possible. Pray for us, so that we can get out safe and sound too, may God protect Ukraine, ”she longs.

This Monday the first humanitarian flight of Ecuadorians from Poland would arrive, reported Foreign Minister Juan Carlos Holguín

Katty keeps in touch with her relatives in Ecuador. He tells them that he is fine and that he hopes to reach Romania and return to his native country.

They are a few hours away from reaching the border and they cross their fingers that they are not detained. They are worried, they are afraid, but they feel that they will get out of there.

“I am with many emotions. I feel sad, worried, afraid, tense and everything. But in spite of that we are fine”, he affirms.

And it is not the only help among Ecuadorians. Compatriots share information, via WhatsApp, about the state of the borders and thus alert each other.

Rosana Quezada is the mother of Adrián Benalcázar, a 21-year-old who has been in Ukraine for two years.

‘My niece’s husband in the Ukraine has already been recruited; she was left alone with her son. There are women who are also called to war’

Adrián studies industrial engineering at the Lviv Polytechnic School and his mother says that other compatriots send messages to his son about the difficulty of approaching the border with Poland.

“The boys who are at the border tell them that they are not letting them pass because they don’t know where Ecuador is, and that the papers they have are useless,” he says.

Rosana denounces that the Ukrainian military are not giving way. In addition, she points out that they no longer have communication with Luis Narváez, in charge of the consular functions of Ecuador in Vienna, Austria. And that Foreign Minister Juan Carlos Holguín promised them that there would be coordination, “But nothing like that has happened,” he emphasizes.

Adrián, along with four other Ecuadorians left Lviv in the direction of Shehyni. They are walking and left from 07:00 (Ecuadorian time) on Saturday and 13:00, Ukrainian time.

His mother is distressed and awaits a prompt response from the Ecuadorian authorities. She wants her son to be included in the humanitarian flight, which Foreign Minister Holguín said would be the first to arrive in the country on Monday.

“I want to communicate that we have confirmed the first humanitarian flight for Ecuadorian citizens from Poland, for Monday. We reached out to students and parents for your organization,” he communicated on his Twitter account. (I)
