The National Police has escorted in Ukraine the first convoy of 40 Spanish civilians that has reached Poland, where he is already safe. At the border there was a group of GEO to facilitate the passage.
The civilians, already on Polish soil, have boarded a bus that will take you to the airport to be able to travel back to Spain.
In the ‘Operation Prussia’, the National Police is guaranteeing security of the two convoys that have left the Spanish Embassy in Kiev to evacuate consular staff and Spanish citizens.
The embassy already had a security team of the National Police that was reinforced last week with a group of GEO. According to sources from the Ministry of the Interior, the police have also been in charge of physically securing the building of the Spanish embassy after the departure of the second and last convoy, in which the ambassador travels.
In addition, the agents have been in charge of lowering the national flag of the headquarters, which they will guard until Spain. Along with security tasks, agents are attending to the needs of the evacueess (water, food and sanitation).
The departure of the ambassador in Ukraine, Silvia Cortés, along with a hundred Spaniards who were still in Kiev, was announced this Friday by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, EU and Cooperation, José Manuel Albares. He indicated, in this regard, that Cortés, together with what remained of the Embassy staff after having been reduced to the essential minimum, were leaving in a convoy for Poland.
Last Tuesday another one left with another 50 Spaniards, so there would already be around a hundred left in Ukraine, mainly national doubles and deeply rooted people who had already made it known that they would not leave the country. Foreign Affairs has recommended that all of them limit their movements as much as possible and remain in a safe place, in constant contact with the Spanish authorities.
