Pope Francis sent a tweet this Friday in several languages, including Russian, in which he affirms that “every war is a shameful surrender”, after the invasion of Ukraine by Russia.
“Every war leaves the world worse off than it found it. War is a failure of politics and of humanity, a shameful surrender, a defeat against the force of evil,” Francis said, quoting a phrase from his latest encyclical “Fratelli tutti” dedicated to fraternity.
The tweet, also published in Italian, Portuguese, Polish, French, English, Spanish, German and Arabic, was accompanied by the hashtags #Pray Together and #Ukraine.
Francis went this Friday to the Russian embassy to the Holy See to express “his concern about the war” in Ukraine.
An unusual gesture by the Argentine pontiff, who does not usually visit diplomatic representations and receives diplomats accredited to the Vatican at the Apostolic Palace. (I)
