The Basque Government is in contact with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs so that a group of Basque professionals and a person of Ukrainian origin, but resident in Euskadi, can leave Ukraine at some evacuation operation.
The Secretary General for Foreign Action, Marian Elorzaexplained in statements posted on the Executive’s website that it is difficult to know how many Basques there are in Ukraine because there may be people with habitual residence there, others passing through and others who have left the country in recent days for fear of a Russian invasion .
In any case, the Basque Government is aware that there is a “professional team” and a person of Ukrainian origin residing in Euskadi. All of them have contacted the Executive to ask for their help to leave the country.
“Bridge” work with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs
The Executive is now working to “help these people to reach a safe point outside Ukraine”, for which it is acting as a “bridge” with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which is in charge of organizing evacuation operations.
Specifically, the CAV authorities are providing the Ministry with information on where these people are and what their circumstances are and their contact details “so that they can be taken into account” when an evacuation convoy is organized.
Elorza has verified in any case the “difficulties” that exist to leave Ukraine since Kiev has decreed martial law, which implies limitations on the movement of people and the airspace is totally closed, with which it is only possible to leave by land in the middle of a military attack by Russia.
