The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has been notified by Kiev that “unknown armed forces” have taken control of the Chernobyl nuclear power plant, but the station has not been damaged.

The director general of the agency, Rafael Grossi, called for maximum restraint to avoid any action that could endanger Ukraine’s nuclear facilities. According to the IAEA, Ukrainian nuclear power plants operate safely and reliably.

“Ukraine has informed the IAEA that “unidentified armed forces” have taken control of all facilities of the Chernobyl nuclear power plant located in the exclusion zone. She added that there were no casualties or damage at the industrial site, ”the IAEA said, the information of which is quoted by TASS.

Earlier Thursday, Russian President Vladimir Putin issued an emergency address to the Russians and announced a special military operation in the Donbass. In his speech, he stated that “circumstances require decisive action from Russia.”
