The European Union (EU) on Thursday condemned the “unjustified” Russian attack on Ukraine, expressed fear for civilians and assured that it will hold the Kremlin “accountable” for it.
“We strongly condemn Russia’s unjustified attack on Ukraine”, indicated in two messages on their official Twitter accounts the presidents of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, and of the European Council, Charles Michel.
In the message, which was also published on his profile by the high community representative for Foreign Policy, Josep Borrell, on the same social network, they said that “In these dark hours, our thoughts are with Ukraine and the innocent women, men and children facing this unprovoked attack and in fear for their lives.”.
Von der Leyen will meet today with NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg, and together they will then deliver a statement to the press at 9:30 GMT.
Stoltenberg also today condemned in a statement Russia’s “unprovoked” attack on Ukraine that “endangers countless civilian lives.”
