NATO says ‘signs’ suggest Russia plans ‘full-scale attack’ on Ukraine

Asked about the Kremlin’s accusations that the West had failed to expand NATO to the east, the secretary general of the Atlantic Alliance explained that this body “has the right” to negotiate with sovereign European states.

The general secretary of the NATO, Jens Stoltenberg, assured this Saturday that Russia is planning a large-scale attack against Ukraine and stressed that “troops are not being withdrawn” as the Kremlin says. “The risk of a Russian attack on Ukraine is very, very high,” Stoltenberg told German broadcaster ARD in an interview.

Thus, the secretary general of the Atlantic Alliance supports the declaration of the president of the United States, Joe Biden, that Russia was intensifying the conflict in the separatist areas of eastern Ukraine to create an excuse to justify an attack. “The increasing violations of the ceasefire, the false claims of alleged genocide in the areas controlled by the separatists and the evacuation of the population of the region to Russia are worrying signs,” Stoltenberg detailed.

Even so, from NATO they believe that “it is not too late”, so they urge Moscow to de-escalate the tension.

Zelensky-Macron meeting

On the other hand, the president of Ukraine, Volodimir Zelenski, and the president of France, Emmanuel Macron, held an “urgent call” on Saturday in which they discussed the possibility of an “immediate de-escalation and a political-diplomatic agreement” in the eastern Ukraine.

Zelenski informed the French president about the worsening of the open front with the self-proclaimed republics of Donetsk and Lugansk, as well as the losses of the Ukrainian side and the attack on politicians and international journalists in the area, Zelenski himself explained on Twitter.

Likewise, the Ukrainian president conveyed to Macron “his willingness not to respond to provocations by pro-Russian separatists,” according to a statement from the Elysee Palace.
