The Russian national hockey team earned a “guaranteed” medal, but it turned out to be not gold – in the final of the Olympic tournament, the Russians lost to the Finnish team.
The Finns were initially considered the favorites, who have been very successful in recent years at international tournaments, practically without using NHL players, making do with the “Europeans”.
We opened an account. Mikhail Grigorenko accurately threw “from the brushes” already in the first seconds of the extra raffle. The Russians won the first period – 1:0.
The Finns bounced back in the fifth minute of the second period thanks to a crazy, in general, puck. A thrust followed, and the rubber disk miraculously slipped into the corner. But the Russian national team did not stagger from this blow, and at least did not lose this twenty-minute game.
Immediately after the break, the Finns scored. We can say that we were not lucky, but apparently the opponent knows what he is doing. Soft throw, substituted club and 1:2.
Our team did not break down, did not even lose in the minority and tried to score. Of course, in the end there was a six-on-five game, but it did not bring success. The Finnish team won the Olympics for the first time in its history.
