NGO Sea Watch rescues 129 migrants in the central Mediterranean

The NGO Sea Watch ship today rescued 129 migrants who were adrift in two boats in the central MediterraneanThe organization reported on its social networks.

The first operation took place this morning when the NGO ship the Sea Watch4 rescued 121 people who were overcrowded in a pneumatic boat, including many unaccompanied minors.

On Saturday afternoon, the NGO’s plane located a small boat with eight people on board and the Sea Watch4 rescued them shortly after. “All 129 people are on board our ship and our crew is taking care of them”reported.

On the other hand, the 247 migrants, including 53 unaccompanied minors and a 5-month-old baby, who were rescued in various operations between last Sunday and Monday by the humanitarian ship Ocean Viking, of the SOS Méditerranée organization, disembarked today in the port of Pozzallo, in Sicily.

This Friday, the organization had explained that among the rescued migrants there were cases of inhalation, fuel burns and skin infections, and that on board these days many have suffered dizziness, dehydration, headaches and stomach aches.

Among the migrants were detected 35 cases of coronaviruswho were placed in isolation.

The ship of the Spanish humanitarian organization Open Arms will arrive in the Sicilian Channel in the next few hours for a new mission.

According to data from the Italian Ministry of the Interior, until February 18, 4,263 arrived on Italian shores compared to 2,932 in the same period last year. (I)
