Israel plans to promote innovation and ease for entrepreneurs in the green energy sector, as well as less energy consuming transport.
The Israeli government made the fight against climate change a “national security” priority this Sunday and promised to “facilitate” investments in renewable energy, days before the opening of COP26.
“Fighting climate change is a new national security interest for Israel,” Prime Minister Naftali Bennett’s cabinet said in a statement.
Last June, the new coalition government set a goal of reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 27% by 2030 and 85% by 2050 compared to 2015 levels.
To this end, the country, which is one of the countries that invests the least in public transport of all the OECD states, plans to promote transport that consumes less energy.
“Today, the government has passed many decisions to promote clean and low-carbon transport,” said Bennett, who is scheduled to attend the COP26 summit from October 31 to November 12 in Glasgow, Scotland.
“We want to promote innovation and facilitate [el trabajo] of entrepreneurs in the green energy sector ”, declared the Minister of Energy, Karine Elharrar.
The country wants to take advantage of the success of numerous companies in the fields of cybersecurity, defense and financial technologies.
The high-tech sector employs just over 10% of Israel’s workforce. (I)
