Peru, the country with the highest mortality rate in the world from covid-19, declared an epidemiological alert in the face of a new dengue outbreak that caused eight deaths and more than 5,000 infections so far this yearthe Ministry of Health reported on Wednesday.
The outbreak was localized in almost half of the country and in Lima, where the authorities began fumigating in various areas to avoid the presence of the Aedes aegypti mosquito, which spreads dengue, Zika and chikungunya.
“5,218 cases of dengue have been reported (…), including eight deaths”, the National Epidemiology Center of the Ministry of Health said in a statement, citing data at the end of the first week of February.

When comparing with the same period of the previous yearthere is an increase in deaths (+1) despite the fact that infections decreased by more than 50%.
