The Australian police reported having recovered human remains in the waters this Wednesday after a bloody shark attack on a swimmer on a Sydney beach.
This was the first fatal unprovoked shark attack in this city since 1963.
The authorities nearby beaches closed for 24 hourswhile patrolling in search of possible predators.
A witness, who was fishing on some nearby rocks, told the national ABC station that he had seen a man in a wetsuit when was dragged to the bottom of the water by a large shark, on the beach at Little Bay (East Sydney).
“When it submerged, many stains were visible,” said the witness. “It was something horrible. I’m still shaking,” he added when he described the attack, which lasted several seconds.
“I keep throwing up. It was very, very unpleasant,” he confided to ABC. “He had just gone swimming enjoying the day, and the shark took his life”, he lamented.
Police in New South Wales indicated that specialized officers investigating this attack found human remains in the waters.
“An investigation into the circumstances of said swimmer’s death is underway, and Little Bay Beach has been closed as law enforcement continues to search the area,” it said in a statement.
The New South Wales emergency services deployed a rescue helicopter and four ambulancesafter being alerted about the shark attack.
“Sadly, this person suffered horrific injuries as a result of the attack and there was nothing the paramedics could do upon arrival at the scene of the tragedy,” said Lucky Phrachanh, NSW Ambulance Inspector Lucky Phrachanh.
The local government of the suburb of Randwick closed its beaches for 24 hours, posting warning signs, asking the public to stay away while “routine procedures” are carried out following a deadly shark attack.
Simultaneously, lifeguards patrolled the beaches looking for more sharkshe added.
“Usually Little Bay is a beautiful, calm place that families enjoy,” said Randwick Mayor Dylan Parker. (I)
