The Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) announced that this Tuesday it reached 100 million doses of vaccine against COVID-19 acquired for Latin America and the Caribbean.
The entity explained that this was due to the efforts of its Revolving Fund, a partner of the Covax mechanism, and that the figure was reached with the batch of 151,200 doses of Moderna vaccines for Haiti and the donation of 1,511,640 doses of Pfizer vaccine that Spain donated for Ecuador.
In Ecuador, the use of the mask in open spaces could be stopped in the coming months depending on viral positivity, estimates the Minister of Health
“Thanks to the work of Covax and our Revolving Fund and the generous support of donors who helped our region secure doses when supplies were limited, countries are better able to administer vaccines and protect their populations, especially to the most vulnerable,” PAHO Director Carissa F. Etienne said in a statement.
It was indicated that the Fund is designated for the acquisition of Covax in America and has supplied vaccines to 33 countries. It was specified that about 30% of the doses were donations from the United States, Canada, Spain, Germany, France, Japan, Sweden, Norway and Denmark.

In addition, it was indicated that vaccination coverage against COVID-19 is still uneven, since fourteen countries and territories have not immunized 40% of their population. (I)
