Venezuelan exodus after almost 20 years of Chavismo approaches six million people

The opponent Venezuelan Miguel Pizarro denounced that the migration crisis of his country after almost 20 years of Chavismo is close to becoming the largest in the world, when mentioning the new figures from the Interagency Coordination Platform for Refugees and Migrants from Venezuela (R4V).

“Almost 6 million Venezuelans have been forced to leave their country because of the complex humanitarian emergency generated by the Nicolás Maduro regime; We are getting closer to becoming the world’s largest migratory crisis, ”wrote Pizarro, appointed by Juan Guaidó commissioner for the United Nations, on Twitter.

In his message, he replied another from R4V in which they detail that, according to their latest count, more than 5.9 million refugees and migrants from Venezuela have left their country, of which 82% live in Latin American countries and the Caribbean.

Colombia, according to data from the platform, is the country that has welcomed the most Venezuelans (1.74 million), followed by Peru (1.29 million), Ecuador (482,900), Chile (448,100) and Brazil (261,400).

The R4V platform was created after, in April 2018, the United Nations Secretary General gave guidelines for the International Organization for Migration (IOM) and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) to lead and coordinate the regional response to the situation of migrants.
